SUPERCOMPETENT™ Achieve Maximum Results in Minimum Time® and Perform at Your Productive Best

Based on Laura's fourth, upcoming business book of the same title (Wiley, 2010), this is her speech on how to achieve peak performance. The new mantra is "buckle down!" These times are about a return to quality rather than quantity; all of us must learn to be competent—and not just plain, old-fashioned competent, but SuperCompetent™. SuperCompetence is better than leadership: it's the ability to be good at everything. And the good news is that it's not in the genes; we can all learn it! The key is to understand and master the six universal traits productive people use to achieve Maximum Results in Minimum Time®: Focus, Organization, Connectedness, Discipline, Efficiency, and Effort. SuperCompetent™ people are better in these areas than everyone else.  When you're on top of them, you can move from the “zero thinking” of the average workplace performer to the “hero thinking” of the SuperCompetent™ pro—not by memorizing mantras but by changing your entire mindset. If you want to achieve success in any area of life, across any area of work, you’ll need to master them too. Reach this new level of competence, and you just may keep your job when those around you are losing theirs.

DIGITAL QUICKSAND: Avoiding Obsessive Compulsive Social Media Disorder (NEW!)

Like most technology, social networks and other social media tools are great resources but lousy masters.  You could spend all day hopping around to different sites, updating your information, and connecting with people all over the world.  But how does that add to your daily productivity?

Objectives:

  • Nail down your SM goals.
  • Pick a few key targets.
  • Get into a routine.
  • Keep up with it.
  • Avoid distractions.
  • Don’t use real time.
  • Embrace third-party apps to automate.
  • Turn one post into multiple posts.
  • Don’t search: scan.
  • Heed the Time Twit warnings
